POLICIES
Introduction:
Music is a precious gift to mankind from God and is a most beautiful thing in the life of any person. Necessarily, except for a very few with God gifted rare musical talent, it is one of the hardest art forms to master even to a modest level. Any professional classical musician, big or small, including famous top musicians, really spends his/her whole life struggling to improve. For a true musician, no other thing has a priority over his/her music practice (‘riwaz’), not even Non-Urgent family duties!
Truths:
A student of Sangeetaanjali must accept the following statements as absolute truths:
Truth-1: Sincere unbroken diligence is the first requirement for learning music, even for a musically gifted person. So, even the most capable sincere teachers can not help a student who neglects to do his/her ‘Rewaaz’ (diligent practice).
Truth-2:However long and ardently one receives lessons in classes of Indian classical music, the ability to understand this music-form and then properly perform this music, does not grow before: a) one attends many live performances of good musicians, and b) oneself performs occasionally in front of a live audience.
Policies & Rules:
In accordance with Truth-1 and Truth-2 stated above, all Sangeetaanjali students must abide by the following policies and rules:
P-1:
A Sangeetaanjali student will give music the respect and priority that music deserves, namely, next only to essential and unavoidable family/business related duties, but before every thing else such as pastimes/social parties etc. As such a student will not be involved in non-essential activities which may cause him/her to miss classes or loose practice times.
P-2: Sangeetaanjali students must be prepared for many years of hard work before starting to enjoy the unbound joy of performing music in front of music lovers (be they relatives & friends, or general public). Barring compelling reasons, a Sangeetaanjali student is expected to practice his/her music lessons at least five days a week. People who dream of learning music within three or four years are not welcome here. No Clever tricks or short cut methodology (crash courses/made easy courses etc.) are recognized here.
P-3:
Concert Attendance: Barring compelling reasons, a Sangeetaanjali student will attend all the music concerts at Sangeetaanjali performed by artists or other students. If he/she can not attend a concert, he/she must email to the Director explaining the reason for non-attendance. Families and Friends of students are also welcome and expected to attend the concerts (all concerts are free of Admission Charges). If one has no time/interest to attend concerts, he/she has no time/interest to learn music. If some student fails to attend at least a few concerts in a year, he may be asked to leave the institution.
P-4:
Concert Report: :Senior and Intermediate (learning for three to five years) Students will need to submit reports on Sangeetaanjali concerts on a standard ‘Concert Report Form’)
P-5:
Sangeetaanjali Festival Attendance: :Barring compelling reasons a Sangeetaanjali student must attend (with family and friends whenever possible) the festivals of ‘Saraswati Puja’ and ‘Annual Day Ceremony’ at Sangeetaanjal .
P-6: Rescheduling of Classes: Sicknesses, acute personal reasons, or Concert performances (local/out of town) of teachers are given priority over teaching classes and may occasionally necessitate rescheduling classes.
Whenever a teacher at Sangeetaanjali will be unable to teach a scheduled class (for performance/sickness/compelling personal reasons), the class will always be rescheduled with as early a notice as possible. If a student cannot attend the rescheduled class and notifies the director of that immediately, his/her account will be credited with the tuition for that class.
P-7:
No Credit for Students Missing Classes: If a student misses a class for any reason whatsoever, including medical emergencies, it is not possible to arrange a make-up class or give credit for the missed class. Though we sincerely sympathize to the sickness or personal difficulties or tragedy that may befall a student, we cannot help. Sangeetaanjali needs all its students to appreciate and accept this fact.
